There is no official approval process or certificate issued by the FDA to approve the sale of any food product or dietary supplement. The Food and Drug Administration has established stringent regulations, called Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) to ensure the safety and manufacturing of foods sold in the United States. MonaVie products are manufactured in GMP-compliant facilities. The ingredients contained in MonaVie products are Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS), and obtaining prior approval from the FDA is not required.
Açai is a small, round, dark-purple berry with amazing nutritional properties. Its appearance is similar to that of a grape, but it has a smaller amount of pulp and a single large seed. Scientific experts have referred to the açai berry as the most nutritious and powerful food in the world.
While all the fruits contained in MonaVie have unique properties that benefit your body, the açai berry has become the "headliner" fruit because it is packed with nutritional value—proteins, healthy fats, fiber, vitamins, minerals, and trace minerals. Equally important is the impressive amount of phytonutrients and powerful antioxidants MonaVie is able to capture from the açai berry through its exclusive processing.
The freeze-dried açai used in MonaVie boasts the highest ORAC score against the peroxyl free radical of any fruit or vegetable tested to date. The açai fruit is the star among other well-known antioxidants, such as blueberries, grapes, red wine, green tea, cranberries, blackberries, and pomegranates. By comparison, açai has more than 10 times the antioxidant power of cranberries.
The açai berry grows in clusters on the açai palm, a genus of 25–30 species of palms native to tropical Central and South America. These tall, slender palms can grow 15–30 meters tall, with leaves up to 3 meters long. The prime commercial source of açai comes from the area where several rivers converge within the Amazon estuary, emptying along the northeastern corner of Brazil into the Atlantic Ocean between the states of Para and Amapa. The people of Brazil refer to açai as the "Milk of the Amazon."
No. A food staple for the local population, açai is a vital part of the economy. Through a partnership with MonaVie, local people practice an ecological way of harvesting that provides long-term economic benefits. Since açai trees produce fruit year round, harvesters benefit from a continual income that helps sustain life in the Amazon and preserve the rainforest.
The exact amount of açai, or of the other fruits, contained in our blend is not disclosed. This is considered one of the company's greatest intellectual assets. However, the ingredients appear on the label in order, by amount, from most to least. This means that because açai is the first ingredient listed on the label, it is the most abundant fruit in the blend.
MonaVie Essential, MonaVie Active, MonaVie Pulse, MonaVie Kosher, and MonaVie (M)mun are flash pasteurized. With flash pasteurization, the product is heated for approximately 15–30 seconds and then immediately cooled. By only briefly subjecting the product to high temperatures, most—if not all—taste and color changes are avoided. Flash pasteurization is preferred to other methods because it kills microbes without destroying beneficial phytonutrients.

MonaVie EMV and MonaVie EMV Lite are tunnel pasteurized. An alternative to flash pasteurization is tunnel pasteurization, where the product is pasteurized after the product is filled and the can is sealed.
MonaVie products are manufactured in the United States of America.
The U.S. National Research Council recommends that you consume at least five servings of fruits and vegetables per day to maintain a proper supply of food-derived antioxidants for your body. Research indicates that only five percent of the U.S. population consumes five servings of fruits and vegetables per day.
Phytonutrients are naturally occurring compounds that contribute to the flavor, color, and disease-resistance of plants (i.e., fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes). Many phytonutrients are powerful antioxidants, but their value extends far beyond free radical protection. Maximum health benefits are derived from consuming a variety of phytonutrients with a full spectrum of colors and pigments, such as those found in MonaVie products.
Polyphenols, a class of phytonutrients, are naturally occurring compounds found in plants. Deeply pigmented berries such as açai are especially high in these antioxidant compounds. Found mostly in the outer layer of fruits, polyphenols offer protection from harmful bacteria and ultraviolet light. In humans, polyphenols protect your body from oxidative damage and support cardiovascular health.
Antioxidants are molecules capable of preventing free radicals from damaging healthy, functioning cells. By donating an electron to these unstable molecules, antioxidants help terminate this chain reaction before crucial damage occurs. Obtaining a variety of antioxidants through diet or supplementation is essential to maintaining your good health.
An acronym for oxygen radical absorption capacity, ORAC is a way to measure the antioxidant capacity of a food. Foods with high ORAC values are desirable for their ability to inhibit free radical activity. The ORAC measurement was developed by a scientist at the National Institute of Aging in 1992 and has proven to be a valuable tool in quantifying health benefits associated with consuming fruits, vegetables, and other antioxidant-containing foods and supplements.
Oxidative stress occurs in your body when there are not enough antioxidants to counter the effects of damaging free radicals.
Free radicals are organic atoms or molecules that have an unpaired electron in their outer cellular ring. Since electrons have a tendency to exist in pairs, free radicals become unstable and latch on to electrons from other atoms and molecules in your body. This cycle creates a biological chain reaction that can damage cell membranes, accelerate the aging process, and contribute to certain ailments. Stress, lack of sleep, a poor diet, UV radiation, exercise, and pollution can all contribute to the formation of free radicals. These unstable atoms can lead to a physiological imbalance in your body called oxidative stress. When this occurs, your body is unable to counter the damaging effects caused by these rogue molecules. This can be demonstrated by cutting an apple in half. As the fruit is exposed to air, it starts to turn brown. On a cellular level, the oxygen in the air is interacting with the cell wall of the apple's tissues, creating free radicals.
MonaVie products are very safe to consume. Some prescription medicines, however, are known to interact with foods. Some food/nutrient interactions you should be aware of when taking MonaVie include vitamin K with blood thinners or anti-coagulants (e.g., Coumadin®), and potassium with blood pressure (e.g., metoprolol and propranolol) and ACE inhibitor medications (e.g., captopril).

MonaVie does not provide medical advice. If you are taking a prescription medication and are under the supervision of a physician, please consult with your physician or pharmacist before taking MonaVie.
For customers concerned about potassium levels for reasons relating to dialysis or contraindications with prescription medicines, please consult a physician before taking MonaVie products. MonaVie Essential, MonaVie Active, MonaVie Kosher, and MonaVie Pulse contain 110 mg of potassium per 2 ounces (3% Daily Value). MonaVie (M)mūn contains 80 mg of potassium per 2 ounces (2% Daily Value). MonaVie EMV and EMV Lite contain 70 mg of potassium per 8.4 ounces (2% Daily Value).
For customers concerned about vitamin K levels because of blood thinning medication, please consult a physician before taking MonaVie products. MonaVie Essential, MonaVie Active, MonaVie Pulse, and MonaVie (M)mūn contain 8 mcg (10% Daily Value) of vitamin K per 2 ounces. We have not tested for levels of vitamin K in MonaVie Kosher or MonaVie EMV, but the amounts are likely similar to the other blends.
Each diabetic is different, as some are insulin dependent and others are not, so MonaVie will affect each individual differently. We advise those with any medical condition to consult with their physician before consuming MonaVie products.

MonaVie Essential and MonaVie Active contain 10 grams of total carbohydrate per 2 ounces, which includes 6 grams of natural sugar from fruit. MonaVie Pulse contains 8 grams of total carbohydrate per 2 ounces, which includes 7 grams of natural sugar from fruit. MonaVie (M)mūn contains 9 grams of total carbohydrate per 2 ounces, which includes 6 grams of natural sugar from fruit. MonaVie Kosher contains 12 grams of total carbohydrate per 2 ounces, which includes 8 grams of natural sugar from fruit. MonaVie EMV contains 40 grams of carbohydrates, which includes 22 grams of natural sugar from fruit and 15 grams of Palatinose. MonaVie EMV Lite contains 18 grams of carbohydrates, which includes 7 grams of natural sugar from fruit and 10 grams of Palatinose.
MonaVie Essential, MonaVie Kosher, MonaVie Active, MonaVie Pulse, and MonaVie (M)mūn contain sodium benzoate.

Preservatives help maintain a product's freshness. Sodium benzoate, the sodium salt of benzoic acid, can prevent the growth of almost all microorganisms (e.g., yeast, bacteria, and fungi). Benzoic acid is found naturally in tea, anise, most berries, cultured dairy products and cheese, cherry bark, and cassia bark.
In the presence of trace amounts of certain metals, which act as catalysts, vitamin C can produce free radicals that convert benzoate into benzene. The FDA and World Health Organization have set a standard for benzene levels in water and that level is 5 parts per billion. MonaVie tests its MonaVie juices for benzene regularly, and we are always well below the FDA's and World Health Organization's acceptable levels for benzene.

Natural flavors improve the overall flavor profile of MonaVie products. MonaVie's proprietary natural flavor blend is derived from a variety of berries, such as strawberry, raspberry, and cherry.
The Glycemic Index (GI) is an important measurement that helps you understand how the foods you eat impact your blood sugar levels. On a scale of 0 to 100, the index measures the increase of glucose levels in your blood two to three hours after eating, with higher values given to foods that cause a rapid rise in blood sugar. A GI score is considered high if it is between 70 and 100, intermediate if it is between 55 and 69, and low if it is below 55. Since foods high in fat or protein are not broken down as quickly and do not cause your blood glucose levels to rise rapidly, GI primarily focuses on carbohydrates.
